How To Teach Your Child English

Teaching your child or tutoring your pupil to learn English is an excellent idea in today's world where English is becoming increasingly THE language through which diverse cultures communicate. If you speak English don't let that precious gift go to waste and be sure to pass it on to your child, but don't blow it before you begin! Do not nitpick and notice too that your child or pupil is not covered in colourful feathers, no, you are not teaching a parrot!

Thank you for coming along with me to learn how to make your private tutoring or English teaching effective and fun. If you go about tutoring in the right way you will find your child or pupil loves learning English and spending time with you. If you teach in a traditional way, with a textbook, then you'll have your work cut out because your pupil will consider these extra English lessons to be like yet more schoolwork and a chore.

Don't blow it before you begin!

Let's look at a couple of big no-nos first, and these apply to parents AND private tutors. The first really big issue with teaching your child is to instil in him or her the belief that he or she can succeed. It does not take much to blow this step! For example I've had a parent tell me how her daughter has no English skills whatsoever and is useless at English because the French primary school are totally incapable of teaching it. That may be true, but you should have seen the little girls face fall when she heard that! Set the right example by showing your child you believe he or she can learn English easily. Your child will flourish if she knows that you love her unconditionally and are proud of her, wherever she is on the learning curve.

Nit picking tutors beware!

When it comes to pronunciation watch out that you are not such a nit picker that the child freezes up and becomes paranoid about opening her mouth! This can happen VERY quickly in the first few lessons so take extra care. Remember that the child is making her best attempt to imitate you on hearing those first few English sounds. Don't penalise her by making her repeat it over and over, and it's never right! Put yourself in the child's shoes and you'll feel a little FRUSTRATION!! "Forget it, English is way too hard, I can't do it so now I don't want to do it, stupid irrelevant subject anyway…"

You cannot correct everything that the child says; it's just demoralising, so let pronunciation errors through and work on them gradually over time.

Your child is not a parrot

A classic error is to mistake your child for a colourful bird with a small brain that is supposed to mindlessly repeat everything you say. Actually no offence to parrots here intended, they have infinite intelligence on some levels. Here's a typical scenario. Mum bends down towards little Johnny holding a fork and says "fork, Fork! FORK! Say fork Johnny, fo-o-or- k!" Johnny looks at mum and thinks, "why should I say that? Why is she saying that like some kind of loony, if that's English then it's weird and I don't need it!"

Engage your child through English games

Instead of this bizarre behaviour it's better to give your child a reason to use English words and this can be done through language games, plays and skits, stories and songs. Now with children under three you don't use structured language games but instead play along with the child, chatting away using simple language and repeating the same words often. You are relying on the fact that the subconscious will be picking up the sounds and entering the database, and rest assured they will be!

However with children aged three and up English tutoring can take on a more structured form. The best way to introduce new vocabulary is through language games. When the new words have been learned follow up with more games where the words are used in sentences. That's how you introduce grammar, by repeating sentences that contain the target grammatical structure you wish your pupil to learn.

An effective strategy

Repetition IS the mother or skill, but not parrot-fashion, instead create a reason for the required repetition through the game. The best way to understand this is to see it done. Let me give you a link to a demonstration video of a private tutor teaching a six year old English, her first ever English lesson. In the video you will also see the tutor with an eleven year old, also using language games and a role-play. You'll find the video on www.HomeEnglishTeacher.com

All four skills may be taught like this. Initially one uses listening games to introduce new vocabulary OR grammar, not both at once. Continue with more games to practise speaking – this is a drill type of activity, disguised in the packaging of game that encourages accuracy and is a starting point for speaking fluency too. Next play some different games using word cards as opposed to pictures or real objects so that the children see how words are spelled. After that practise writing – again, also through games.

It's logical that a pupil should hear words several times before being expected to say them. Likewise a child needs to see a word written before you can expect him or her to write it.

Priorities

If your child is learning English at school then I recommend focusing on listening and speaking in your private lessons because usually those are the elements that are lacking in the school environment.

Your child or pupil may very well be MILES behind the school curriculum and hopelessly lost. Well my recommendation is not to worry about that, but to build a strong foundation. Firstly make your lessons fun and not tense, because applying pressure during lessons is not likely to work. It's like pulling on a flower to make it grow faster. Instead your flower needs a little sunshine, a little rain and maybe some fertilizer to help it grow faster, i.e. some encouragement, an effective teaching strategy and some enjoyment in learning the subject.

Build a strong foundation with the BASICS. After all what chance does your pupil have in learning fancy tenses if she has not mastered the present tense? In addition remember that school exams are not only chance in life to succeed. It's more important to nurture a love of the subject and a desire to learn than to try to flog someone through an exam which they have no chance of passing, or rush and pressurise a young beginner. Why? Well life goes on a long time! We can have many chances to take exams and to learn. So keep the joy of learning alive and one day that seed will flourish into an autonomous plant.

Teenage Social Problem

Introduction
Lately , the issue that is spoken too much is teenage social issue. The issue is brought to lime light and discovered about through the media. Many ways of solving this issue like Seminar, Forums, Suggestions and Activities had been discovered over the years. Negative social behaviorsm should not indicate weakness of our socially to practice positive development based on principles, moral values and religion.

Definition
Basically, social problem can be defined on various negative behavior which does not in any way support or benefit the economical structure which is practice by certain society or country.
Corruption terms there no specific definition to categorie teenagers. ChildrensNork Act Youngsters 1996 explains that a child is in the range of 10 to 14 whereas in another act children are definied as those who 21 years and below. Although both these act does not state the specific age for children , generally teenagers who we are attention to are those under  21 years and below and a large number of them are still in schooling years.
Statistics and record
In Malaysia, teenagers are covering more than half the population. Same  as their number, their social problems are also high.
The statistics reveals that immorality among teenagers is something serious to consider. According, to the Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Authority, (BH, 22 Sept. 1993) between 1990 to 1992, 37602 individuals were detained for crime changes. Sad to say, front this amount, 3450 are teenagers .
On the other hand, Police statistic shows among the most common crimes are breaking into houses, rioting, fight among themselves, drug abuse, motorcycle and bicycle the to ( Utusan Malaysia, Januari 1992).

Crimes committed by teenagers does not only occur in cities and urban areas , but also all over the country. For example, in the state of Kedah alone, 307 cases are reported in a year. To be specific, 204 criminals are Malays, 54 Chinese and 47 indians. The statistics also shows the number of crimes recorded an enormous increasment from year to year.
Teenagers are also likely to runaway or disappear from their homes. Drug abuse also has major number of crimes recorded.
Records also reveal immorility rate among teenagers who commit adultery is also very hight. Another outstanding problem among these group of people is the habit of wasting time and hanging around mostly in shopping complexs and entertainment contest. A survey shows, that 90% of Chinese teenagers are back home straight after such this follows by Indians 72 % and Malays 5.8 %.
Causes
From the statistics we can understand that the morality rate among the teenagers are quite high and at a worrying stage.
On of the reasons associated on immorality is their involvement is crimes. Teenagers involved in crime don’t only come from poor families but also from wealthy families as food background.
So can be said as, the main reasons for teenagers getting into crimes are because of lack of teaching and guidance from the parents. Other than this, strem, materialistic and involvement of parents in social activities , will eventually create a group between children and parents who hardly meet, neither be in the company of each other. Infact there are some parents and children who don’t see and meet each other for days although staying make the same roof.
A very rich and lavish lifestyle of a family too can contribute to this factor. For instance, parents who pamper this children to much and give a large some of pocket money, indirectly making them involved those who like to have fun and enjoy themselves. This teenagers and to enervate , and get engaged in social causes. This obviously worsen the situation. Parents who have “ don’t bother “ attitude towards their childrensbehaviour , indirectly impose a bad remark on them. Teenagers who are exposed to this at a very early stage are so vulnerable and tend to loose their direction in live.
On the other hand, unsystematic way of life , separation of parents , frequent squabbles or arguments , bend economy status and also disability of parents to suprize the education of the children will also contribute to the above said problems.
So , as parents and responsible citizens are have to do our duty by planning our activities , identify on childrens problem, guiding and advising them and being alert of what they are doing all the time.
Surrounding factors and the mass media also woulds the character of there vulnerable teenagers, who are not ready to face the challenging world. Many news, or stanles regarding unwanted issues are often broadcasted or printed. Teenagers tend to follow all there negative attitude  and finally end up in shopping complexs, entertainment centres and getting too social us their friends.
The school life also plays a part in producing good individuals. Stress in school, unprofessional and other factors too purchesan individuals to find the easy way out and get oneself involve in immoral activites or crimes.
How to Overcome
Growing up is never easy , particularly when high-spirited young people reach the teenagers. These young people begin to grow rapidly , on become individual of his own right. But this transition is never simple. Such striking changes always raise seriously ant the teenagers are often uncertain what to do.
It is the parent’s responsibility to make sensible rules to guide the teenagers. Children deed serious attention from their parents. Parents must be alert of the architectures they are engaged in. They should allocate time to identify and solve their probs. Also not forgetting who their friends are. Besides that, parents should be there to give them confidence when they need, courage and are attitude in handling their problems and making decisions. Other than this, parents can also murture values of life give motivation , instill religion values training them to polite, punctual, honest being accountable and overall being a good personality who is willing to accept comments and correct themselves. Parents should be a role model to their children.
Another way is academic approach. This can be achieved by increasing their commitment in academic based or also non academic based activities like co-curricular activities, ICT and computer classes and so on.Having school based law and order. This can create fear among school children and at the same time help the school authorities parents in keeping them under control.Schools should get law enforcement authorities like the “ Police” to get involve when manner problems crises. Police law powers can be used by the CCH management in disciplined the pupils. Serious problem can be refered to the police from time to time.
Necessary steps like, counselip for the teenagers will help them to overcome their problems. There counselip session would be more meaningful if counselors are experienced and dynamics.
Closure
Various steps can be taken to control the teenage problems. But to be precise, parents are the one should be playing a major role and be responsible to educate their children and to teach them which good and otherwise. I would say without the parents commitment it’s very difficult to overcome the teenage problems. Under this friendly guidance and coursed the teenager will soon be willing to accept any reasonable suggestions provided has parents are wise enough to help his solve his problems as a mature young adult.
